On 15–16 October, the TWIN-IN team participated in the 195th EAAE Seminar in Gaeta, Italy, sharing insights on how to integrate gender into agricultural research.
Chrysanthi Charatsari and Evagelos Lioutas presented the paper “Integrating Gender in Agricultural Research: The Case of the TWIN-IN Project”, co-authored with Marcello De Rosa, Trine Rogg Korsvik, Tiziana Pagnani, Anastasios Michailidis and Luca Bartoli.
What does meaningful gender integration in agricultural research look like?
Drawing on the TWIN-IN experience, the paper highlights three key priorities:
- Promoting women’s participation as both researchers and beneficiaries of research activities.
- Transforming research cultures by addressing gender biases and fostering values and practices that support equality and inclusion.
- Ensuring gender relevance and impact throughout the design and implementation of research projects.
While gender integration remains challenging, TWIN-IN’s preliminary lessons can help inform future agricultural research projects, as well as research beyond the agricultural sector.
The seminar provided a valuable space for researchers, policymakers and practitioners to exchange ideas and good practices on gender integration in agricultural policies and rural development.
