What is the Velvet Evaluation Model ?
The VELVET evaluation model for agricultural extension/education projects emerged from the experience of evaluating several competence-development interventions for farmers. It is a learner-centered approach that, beyond ticking boxes to assess trainees’ achievements in specific competence categories, evaluates the extent to which participation in learning activities changes adult learners’ value systems, empowers them, and ultimately leads them to transform their perspectives. VELVET stands for Values, Expectations, Learning, Value change, Empowerment, Transformation; the six axes of the model.
In TWIN-IN, the model will be used to evaluate the performance of Twin Transition Schools (TTS).
- Before the implementation of TTS, the evaluation team will identify participants’ Values and Expectations, the two dimensions that open up transformative spaces for learners.
- During TTS, the achieved Learning and Value change will be continuously assessed.
- After TTS completion, TWIN-IN’s Alliance will evaluate the outcomes of this change in terms of learners’ Empowerment and Transformation (personal, professional, and social).
